:: Biography ::

In 1994 I commenced study at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), USA, where I studied a 4-year Bachelor of Science in Agriculture with a Major in Animal Sciences. During this time, I developed an understanding of animal physiology and husbandry practices across a range of animal species. I also gained an interest in genetics, animal health & behaviour. Additionally, I participated in the Study Abroad student exchange program with the University of Wollongong, NSW, Australia.

In 2000, I returned to Australia to first volunteer, then study under Dr Bill Sherwin, professor within the School of Biological Sciences at the University of New South Wales, who supervised my Honours thesis in Quantitative Genetics entitled Heritability Estimates in a Wild Koala Population. Upon completion & presentation of my thesis, I was granted a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Biological Ecology.

Whilst dealing with the stress of writing a thesis, I gained an appreciation and keen interest for natural therapies. Upon completing my thesis, I studied Integrated Body Therapies at the Australasian College of Natural Therapies (ACNT) in Surry Hills, and subsequently was awarded a Diploma Remedial Massage Therapy and a Diploma of Aromatherapy. Upon completion of the course, I commenced study in Naturopathy with ACNT & the University of New England in 2004. However, I decided to discontinue this full-time course after one year, as I wanted to gain experience working in the Remedial Massage industry.

In 2004, I took the position of Remedial Massage Therapist and Physiotherapy Assistant at City Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Centre, a small, yet busy private physiotherapy practice in the heart of Sydney's financial district. During my 8-1/2 years at "City Physio", I gained knowledge and therapeutic experience in treating a wide range of musculo-skeletal issues, including numerous sports-related injuries, work-related injuries and dysfunction due to postural imbalances. I developed a special interest in TMJ Syndrome ("clicky jaw") and the headaches that are often connected with this common problem.

In 2011, I established my own part-time Remedial Massage Therapy business, working one to two days of the week at Urban Healing on King Street in Newtown. During my time at Urban Healing, I gained the confidence and the skills in necessary in running my own business, which led me to establish my very own Remedial Massage clinic in the heart of the Sydney CBD in January 2013.

I pride myself in my personalised, holistic approach to Remedial Massage, which typically emphasises Myofascial Release and Orthopaedic Massage techniques, but may also include other remedial techniques, such as Trigger Point Therapy, Manual Lymphatic Drainage, Muscle Energy Technique, and Swedish Massage where appropriate. I have also done additional training in Pregnancy Massage, as well as Manual Lymphatic Drainage and Massage for oro-facial & sinus pain.

In keeping with my keen interest in animals, I hope to soon begin taking the necessary steps to broaden the scope of my business to include Animal Massage Therapy, through the study of relevant courses and workshops.

In addition to natural therapies & ecology / animal sciences, I have many other interests, including Russian language & culture, photography, music, science fiction & fantasy literature, cinema, and gaming. I also enjoy bushwalking, stand-up paddle boarding (SUP), horseback riding, martial arts, singing, and occasionally playing my flute & piccolo.
